FAQs

What makes Alamo City Birth the best for placenta encapsulation?

In order in ensure the highest standards for placenta encapsulation, we believe that a woman should be confident in the location of her placenta at all times. We also believe that a woman should be confident the encapsulated placenta she is consuming is hers. No two women’s placentas are ever encapsulated in the same location. We have the highest standards for encapsulating, are OSHA compliant trained and certified in Bloodborne Pathogens and adhere to the strictest WHO (World Health Organization) standards. We encapsulate in the client’s home and never in the home of the encapsulator or other location. Safety and quality are our highest priority.

Why do you do the process in my home?

As a ProDoula Certified Postpartum Placenta Specialist, your safety and peace of mind and our professionalism are our top priority. The guidelines we adhere to far exceed the standards of the placenta encapsulation industry. In-home placenta encapsulation benefits you in the following ways:

  • Confidence that the placenta being encapsulated is in fact yours.
  • There is no risk of unfamiliar bacteria being introduced to the placenta that may interfere with a healthy postpartum recovery.
  • As a Postpartum Placenta Specialist, we can support you best when we are with you. The client gains the added benefit of a trained and certified Postpartum Placenta Specialist present in their home during the process.

How and when do I contact you?

Please contact me during normal business hours, no later than 12 hours after the baby and placenta are born. Contacting me as soon as possible allows enough time to coordinate schedules in order to encapsulate your placenta in a timely manner.

What do you need from me?

Clients can be confident that all of our equipment and supplies are properly sanitized and prepared for encapsulation. I will bring everything I need with me when I come to your home. What I need from you is:

  • Placenta
  • Access to stove
  • Access to sink
  • An outlet to plug in the dehydrator

How and when do I contact you?

Within 4 hours of the birth, the placenta must be put on ice or refrigerated until I begin the process. If using a cooler, please remember to change out the ice. The placenta can be refrigerated up to 3 days after birth. After that, the placenta needs to be placed in the freezer enclosed in double freezer bags and thawed in the refrigerator 24 hours prior to my arrival.

When do you start the process?

Ideally, we like to begin the process a couple days after you give birth. If encapsulation is not possible or desirable by you, freezing the placenta and defrosting it prior to encapsulation is recommended. Your placenta can safely be frozen for up to 3 months.

What if my friends/family are unsupportive?

Placenta encapsulation is not for everyone. Your decision to encapsulate is a personal decision. Sharing decisions about birth, parenting, and postpartum recovery that are personal to you, may expose you to unsupportive and unnecessary judgment from others. Choose the decision that is best for you and make no apologies. Your finished product will look like any other vitamin or supplement and would not be cause for a visitor to question it.

Do we need to be home during the process?

This is completely up to you and your comfort level. Whatever you decided is how we will moved forward. As a professional postpartum placenta specialist, I want to make this process as smooth and comfortable for you as possible.

How long does the process take?

The entire process takes approximately 24 hours. I will be present for 2 hours each day for 2 consecutive days.

How do I take my capsules?

We encourage you to follow your body’s cues and signs and set a routine for consumption that meets your personal needs.

When do you start the process?

There are no studies to determine the risks or benefits of consuming a human placenta. As of date, all evidence is anecdotal. We do not know exactly what is contained in the placenta after processing. A list of hormones and nutrients can be misleading.
